KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 7 Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun joined compatriots Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik in the men’s doubles quarter-finals at the World Championships in Paris on Thursday.
Wei Chong-Kai Wun overcame England’s world No. 14 Ben Lane-Sean Vendy 21-18, 21-18 in their last-16 clash, in 35 minutes, booking their first quarter-final appearance at the World Championships after falling in the last-16 stage in Copenhagen two years ago.
Earlier, Aaron-Wooi Yik had to dig deep before edging compatriots Arif Junaidi-Yap Roy King 18-21, 21-18, 26-24.
Wei Chong-Kai Wun will now face the world No. 1 and favourites Kim Won Ho-Seo Seung Jae of South Korea in Friday’s quarter-finals.
The Koreans hold a 2-0 head-to-head record over the Malaysians, having defeated them at this year’s Orleans Open and Japan Open.
Despite the challenge, Wei Chong-Kai Wun have the pedigree and experience to trouble the top seeds, having claimed titles at the Indonesia Masters and Malaysia Masters earlier this year.
