PETALING JAYA:

Former economy minister Rafizi Ramli resigned as a member of the Dewan Rakyat’s selection committee this week, says Johari Abdul.

The Dewan Rakyat speaker added that Prime Minister Ibrahim, the president, then nominated Port Dickson MP Aminuddin Harun to replace Rafizi.

“Rafizi gave his resignation letter this week,” Johari told FMT.

“Someone has got to do the job and the party president nominated the Negeri Sembilan menteri besar (Aminuddin).”

FMT has reached out to Rafizi, the Pandan MP, on the reasons for resigning as a member.

Earlier today, the Dewan Rakyat approved a motion tabled by deputy law minister M Kulasegaran to appoint Aminuddin to the committee. This was passed in a voice vote.

The committee, chaired by Johari, also comprises deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof, transport minister Loke Siew Fook, law and institutional reform minister Azalina Othman Said, opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin and Kota Bharu MP Takiyuddin Hassan.

All six committee members hold central leadership positions in their respective parties.

The committee’s role is to appoint MPs to several parliamentary special select committees.
