PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested a Bangladeshi company manager on suspicion of submitting documents containing false details to obtain a foreign worker’s permit.
The suspect was arrested at approximately 9pm on Wednesday (Aug 27) with the assistance of the Immigration Department at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
The suspect was then remanded for seven days until Sept 3 after an application was made to the MACC at the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (Aug 28).
According to sources, the man in his 30s was believed to have fled to his home country when the operation was carried out around June.
“However, as a result of the ‘red flag’ against him, the suspect was successfully arrested as soon as he arrived in Malaysia.
“The suspect is believed to have conspired to commit the act and also received a bribe amounting to approximately RM210,000 from foreign worker permit applicants.
“Preliminary investigations found that the suspect submitted work contract documents and CIDB Registration Certificates suspected of containing false details related to the Workforce Recalibration Program (RTK) 2.0 to the department’s Enforcement Division to obtain a foreign worker permit,” he said.
Meanwhile, Putrajaya MACC Director, Azizul Ahmad Sarkawi, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and informed that the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
