PETALING JAYA:

Police have arrested 400 people allegedly involved in a scam call centre following a major raid on an office in Bangsar South, Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus confirmed the raid and arrests on Tuesday but declined to comment further when asked at a press conference, Berita Harian reported.

“Investigations are ongoing since it involves a large number of arrests. A special press conference will be held soon,” he said.

It was reported that the 400 detained comprised both men and women, as well as Malaysians and foreigners.

The syndicate allegedly engaged in online scams and gambling.

Police reportedly raided five floors of a commercial building in Bangsar South which operated as call centres.

There was a heavy police presence with detainees placed in seven police trucks in stages before being brought for questioning.
