KUALA LUMPUR: The Government Procurement Bill was successfully passed in the Dewan Rakyat, despite significant opposition and strong objections from the Opposition,
The Bill was put to a bloc vote with a total of 125 MPs voting in support. Another 63 voted against it, while 32 were absent, and one abstained. There were only 221 votes counted as Pendang MP Datuk Awang Hashim was under suspension.
Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin(PN-Masjid Tanah) called for a bloc vote, with several other Opposition MPs joining in the call.
“Since more than 15MPs have called for a bloc vote, therefore, as per Standing Orders 46 (4), I rule for a bloc vote to be held now,” said Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.
