PETALING JAYA:

Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of a man whose body was found in an alley near Jalan Horley, Ipoh, yesterday.

Ipoh police chief Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said that acting on intelligence, police had nabbed the 32-year-old man at the Southern Integrated Terminal in Kuala Lumpur at about 10pm yesterday.

“Two mobile phones were also seized,” he was reported as saying by Bernama, adding that the suspect also had a criminal record.

Following the arrest, police also seized two keys and a white lorry at Taman Idaman Square.

Abang Zainal Abidin said the motive is still under investigation and that a remand application would be made today.

Yesterday, he said police had identified the owner and driver of a bonded truck involved in the case.

“The incident was discovered at about 6am (yesterday) when a hotel employee informed the police about the discovery of a fully clothed man lying on the ground at the location.

“An initial inspection found the victim in a pool of blood with serious injuries to the head and back, but no identification documents were found on him,” he said.

Abang Zainal Abidin said CCTV footage showed the victim being chased by a white bonded truck before becoming involved in a struggle with the suspect at about 4.25am.

The victim then fell in front of the vehicle and was run over.

An autopsy conducted at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital’s forensic department determined the cause of death as head and chest injuries from a road collision.

Abang Zainal Abidin said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
