KUALA LUMPUR: Mixed doubles Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei began their World Championships campaign in commanding fashion with a straight-games win in Paris on Wednesday.
The world No. 4 brushed aside India’s world No. 33 Rohan Kapoor-Ruthvika Shivani Gadde 21-16, 21-11 in their first meeting at the Adidas Arena in Paris.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei never looked troubled as they dictated the pace throughout, closing out the match in 30 minutes to book their last-16 spot.
Their next assignment, however, will be a far sterner test against Indonesia’s world No. 11 Jafar Hidayatullah-Ferisha Pasaribu, who have been in strong form this season.
The Malaysians will tread with caution as they look to keep their momentum and push for a podium finish.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei are the third mixed pair to reach the last 16.
Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai will face compatriots Hoo Pang Ron-Cheah Su Yin for a place in the quarter-finals on Thursday.
