IPOH: A man was found dead in an alley near Jalan Horley early this morning, in what police believe to be a case of murder.
Ipoh district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the unidentified victim, who was fully clothed and unconscious, was discovered by a hotel employee around 6am.
“The employee immediately alerted the police. Upon arrival, officers found the man covered in blood, with severe injuries to his head and back.
“No identification documents were found on him,” he said in a statement today.
He added that closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the area showed the victim being chased by a white bonded lorry at 4.24am.
“The video shows the victim being pursued by the lorry before a struggle occurred with the suspect.
“He then fell in front of the vehicle, was run over, and left at the scene,” he said.
He added that a post-mortem conducted at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital revealed that the man died from head and chest injuries consistent with a road traffic collision.
“We have identified the owner and driver of the lorry and are currently working to locate the suspect to assist with our investigation.
“Witnesses or individuals with relevant details are urged to contact Senior Investigating Officer Assistant Superintendent Mahani Mohammed at 019-261 8221, or report to the nearest police station,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the mandatory death penalty, or imprisonment of 30 to 40 years and no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane if not sentenced to death.
