KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) have zeroed in on the procurement of properties linked to a detained Kuala Lumpur City Hall senior officer.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the officer, who is in Jusa B grade category, was one of the top management officials under the mayor’s office.

“This person is one of the top directors under the mayor’s office.

“Part of our investigation entails looking at the sale of properties, particularly a condominium which this person was linked to,” Azam told the New Straits Times today.

He said investigations were ongoing, adding that further updates would be announced as their probe developes.

The top City Hall official was among three people remanded in connection with a corruption investigation linked to an IT project dating back 11 years.

It was reported that luxury Hermès and Louis Vuitton handbags and shoes, over RM200,000 in cash, and two high-end vehicles were among the items seized by the MACC.

The suspects were yesterday remanded for four days.

Following the arrests, MACC also seized four telecommunications devices and two vehicles — a Lexus RX500h and a Mini Cooper, the source added.

In addition, MACC froze 19 bank accounts belonging to individuals and companies, involving assets valued at over RM7 million.
