KANGAR: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) is reviewing the need to appoint retired police and military personnel as wardens at all of its higher learning institutions.
At present, the initiative, aimed at curbing bullying among students, is limited to just Mara Junior Science Colleges (MRSM).
Mara director-general Datuk Zulfikri Osman said the pilot project involving MRSM campuses in Balik Pulau and Besut was launched earlier this month.
“We started with two MRSM campuses, and the response has been encouraging. We only intended to recruit fewer than 10 individuals but more than 500 ex-servicemen came for the interviews.
“It is too early to determine the success of the pilot project,” he said after launching the Himpunan Usahawan Perlis 2025 here yesterday. “But if it proves successful, we will expand the initiative to at all MRSM campuses.”
He added that the positive reception had come not only from former servicemen but also parents and students.
