MOSTI Plans 11 Projects Under MADANI Adopted School Prog To Spark Interest In Math, Science

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 (Bernama) — To brace the young generation to face the challenges and seize opportunities in a world driven by Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), the MADANI Adopted School Initiative under MOSTI will place significant emphasis on the STI aspects.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), its secretary-general Datuk Seri Hasnol Zam Zam Ahmad said 11 projects have been planned under the MADANI Adopted School programme to give students bigger exposure to the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and digital literacy.

He said the projects were approved based on three main components: co-curricular development, infrastructure development and professionalism development.

“For co-curricular development, the focus is on students’ mastery of STEM subjects, recognition of outstanding students as well as support and intervention for students who need attention. As for infrastructure development, it involves repairing the participating school.

“For professionalism development, teachers will be engaged during benchmarking visits,” he said.

Earlier, he launched the MADANI School Adoption for Sekolah Kebangsaan Telok Gadong in Klang, which was attended by MOSTI officers, representatives from various ministries, departments and local community leaders.

At the event, he also presented a mock cheque for an allocation to Sekolah Kebangsaan Telok Gadong headmaster, Suhaila Muner and the president of the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG), Muhammad Hafiz Bahari.

He also announced a RM25,000 allocation for creating a STEM Corner in classrooms of the school, to pique an interest among students to explore the world of STEM in an enjoyable and easily understood way.

“This corner is meant to cultivate curiosity (for science and math), ignite the spirit of lifelong learning and foster an interest in STEM starting from early schooling,” according to the statement.

Hasnol Zam Zam also took the time to review several projects under the MADANI Adopted School Programme being implemented at the school, as a sign of commitment to the success of the MOSTI initiative.

Highlights in conjunction with the event were a science show and mobile science bus exhibition by the National Science Centre, solar observation by the National Planetarium, as well as the techlympic outreach exhibition participated by students of Sekolah Kebangsaan Telok Gadong.
