KUALA LUMPUR: The police will place greater emphasis on road safety and traffic management during its fourth edition of the Special Dialogue series scheduled for the final quarter of this year.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the matter is being prioritised as road safety remains an ongoing challenge that requires serious attention and strategic approaches.

“Among the issues that will be discussed include motorcycle convoys and marshals, as the trend poses safety risks and could even result in loss of lives,” he told reporters after the closing ceremony of the third PDRM Special Dialogue on Tuesday (Aug 26).

Saifuddin explained that while PDRM already has standard operating procedures in place, including directives from the Inspector-General of Police that outline clear dos and don’ts, organisers and their appointed marshals must understand their limitations.

“Marshals appointed by organisers cannot control other vehicles on the road, nor can they override traffic signals or similar rules,” he said, adding that the matter will be given thorough attention in the upcoming dialogue.
