JOHOR BARU: Two security guards claimed trial in two separate Magistrate’s Courts here to charges of impersonating policemen and extorting a couple at Taman Kota Masai in Pasir Gudang last week.
The accused, Mohamad Syafiq Zakaria, 29, and Mohamad Sulaiman Ab Rahman, 29, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read before magistrates Nabilah Nizam and Latifah Hazimah Wahab respectively here on Tuesday (Aug 26).
Before Nabilah, the duo was accused of impersonating police officers to intimidate a 20-year-old man and woman.
They allegedly held a cardholder bearing the words “PIKM Security Guard” with Sulaiman’s name on it while identifying themselves as police and ordering the victims to get out of the vehicle.
The offence was allegedly committed on Jalan Betik 1 at Taman Kota Masai in Pasir Gudang at about 11.30pm on Aug 21.
The charge, framed under Section 170 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Meanwhile, before Latifah Hazimah, both were accused of extorting RM2,000 from the male victim by instilling fear.
The act was allegedly committed in front of a house on Jalan Duku 14 in Taman Kota Masai, at the same time and date.
For the second charge, they were charged under Section 384 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years, a fine, whipping, or any two of the punishments upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutors Siti Aishah Latif and Nik Noratini Nik Azman requested bail of RM10,000 each with one local surety.
Both magistrates then granted bail of RM8,000 each for Syafiq and Sulaiman, with the case fixed for mention on Sept 12.
The two accused were not represented in court.
