KUCHING, Aug 25 (Bernama) — The United States (US) Civil-Military Support Element in Malaysia (CMSE MYS) has donated medical monitoring equipment to the Sarawak Flying Doctor Services to strengthen healthcare access in remote and indigenous communities across the state.
The US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur in a statement on Monday said the donation, made in collaboration with local suppliers and the Sarawak Health Department, comprises a portable ultrasound machine, mini oxygen concentrator, customised medical bag, digital transcutaneous bilirubinometer, portable power station, nebuliser, automated external defibrillator (AED), vital signs monitor, digital weighing scale, thermoscan and coldbox.
“These essential tools are expected to enhance the operational capacity of the Flying Doctor Services in delivering medical assistance to areas inaccessible by road or river,” it said.
The equipment was handed over by Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy Kuala Lumpur David Gamble to Sarawak Health Director Dr Veronica Lugah in a ceremony at the Layang-Layang Hangar, Kuching International Airport.
Meanwhile, Gamble said the US is proud to partner with Sarawak to improve healthcare access for remote communities.
“This donation reflects our deep commitment to supporting the well-being of Sarawakians and strengthening the long-standing ties between the US and Malaysia,” said Gamble.
The embassy noted that this contribution marks the second phase of a RM250,000 medical equipment package provided to Sabah and Sarawak, underscoring continued US support for healthcare resilience in Malaysia.
On May 29, a similar initiative was carried out in Kota Kinabalu, where the US Civil-Military Support Team partnered with Sabah’s Flying Doctor Service to deliver medical equipment and strengthen emergency response in the state’s most remote areas.
Established in 1973 under the Health Ministry, the Flying Doctor Services has played a crucial role in delivering healthcare to Sarawak’s rural interior and providing emergency patient transport across East Malaysia.
