KUALA LUMPUR: In celebration of the 68th National Day, Rapid KL rail lines will operate around the clock from Aug 30 to 31, Prasarana Malaysia Bhd announced.

Prasarana Group president and chief executive officer Amir Hamdan said the round-the-clock operations of rail services include the Light Rail Transit (LRT), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), Monorail, as well as the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) on the Sunway route.

“Several bus services and zones of the Rapid On-Demand (ROD) service will also run continuously from 6am on Aug 30 until 11.30pm the following day,” he said at a press conference at the Pasar Seni LRT station.

The extended service, now in its second year, is part of Prasarana’s initiative to support the government’s efforts in enhancing the National Day celebrations.

“For the additional bus services, 86 routes involving 235 buses will operate on the eve of Merdeka.

Meanwhile, on National Day (Aug 31), the number will increase to 100 routes with 308 buses to meet public demand.”

He added that for the ROD service, 20 vans will be provided to cover five zones from Sentral Station and one zone in the Central Business District.

Bookings can be made via the MyRapid PULSE application for a fee of only RM1.

“The experience of operating 24-hour services last year serves as an important reference for us to improve our preparations this time.

“By deploying more than 5,000 frontline staff, we are confident that this year’s service will be smoother and safer,” Amir said.

He added, “We hope that Malaysians will take advantage of this facility, come together, and experience the spirit of independence in an atmosphere filled with goodwill.”

The full list of bus routes and ROD zones can be viewed on the website www.myrapid.com.my or on Rapid KL’s social media channels.

Meanwhile, to facilitate travel to the celebration location, Rapid KL will provide 96 free intermediary buses along the following three routes: from Sentral Station to Jalan Tun Abdul Razak 2 in Presint 2; from PICC to Jalan Tun Hussein in Presint 3; and from Taman Botani to Putra Square.

“Passengers are also advised to use the Touch ‘n Go card and ensure that there is sufficient balance to ensure a smooth journey.”
