Authorities identifying those spreading false claims on TH, says Fahmi


KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is identifying individuals over the circulation of defamatory and provocative videos regarding Lembaga (TH).

Communications Minister Datuk Fadzil said TH had lodged a report to the MCMC and police over the matter.

“There are individuals who are spreading false information about TH, despite TH providing clarification and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar explaination in Parliament.

“These individuals are being identified for further action,” he told a press conference after the Denyut Nadi Merdeka Programme at Pasar Seni LRT Station here today.

said the investigation was being conducted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

added that spreading false information was a criminal offence punishable by a fine of up to RM500,000.

“I would like to remind everyone to be cautious about any information they receive and share,” he added.

“We have seen in the past, in the case of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir, a teacher (allegedly) spread false statements claiming that Zara Qairina was put into a washing machine. That teacher was charged in court.”

He also mentioned another case involving a man who falsely claimed to be a pathologist who conducted Zara Qairina’s autopsy.
