Police have referred five cases involving the display of the national flag upside down to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), according to Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail.
He said they were currently investigating another case. However, he did not provide any details.
Khalid said such cases tended to surface when Merdeka celebrations were around the corner.
“So far, we have investigated six cases involving the installation or display of the flag upside down – two in Johor, two in Penang, one in Selangor and one in Negeri Sembilan,” he told a press conference.
There has been a string of blunders involving the Jalur Gemilang in recent weeks.
The most recent incident involved a private dental clinic in Pontian, Johor, which has since led to it being ordered to close for 30 days by the local council.
A 33-second viral video had shown the national flag being flown upside down on the second floor of a three-storey shop building, next to the Johor flag, which was correctly displayed.
Four days prior, Johor police said they were investigating a social media post that shows the Johor state flag being flown upside down at a hotel in Segamat.
