SUBANG JAYA: Police have seized methamphetamine (syabu) worth RM7 million following the discovery of an abandoned Honda Civic after a minor crash in Subang Jaya. The vehicle was reported to the authorities by members of the public.
Officers arrived at the scene at around 11.30pm and found the car deserted. A search uncovered four sacks containing 78 packets, while a further inspection of the boot revealed seven more sacks with 130 packets. In total, police confiscated 11 sacks containing 208 packets of syabu, weighing about 220.16kg.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat the 32-year-old suspect from Rantau Panjang, Kelantan had a significant criminal record.
“The suspect has six previous criminal convictions and nine prior drug-related cases. He has also been investigated under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
Highlighting the scale of the seizure, he added that preliminary investigations indicated that the quantity of drugs confiscated could supply around 200,000 users.
Police also revealed that the vehicle bore a fake registration plate, believed to have been fitted by the suspect to avoid detection.
Investigations are ongoing into whether the crash was a minor accident or involved another vehicle.
Officers are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses to determine if the suspect fled the scene deliberately.
“We are still tracking the suspect and investigating both the origins and the intended destination of the seized drugs,” he added.
Authorities also urged the public to assist in locating the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to contact Inspector Muhammad Saifullah at 017-906 5674 or report to the nearest police station.
