KUANTAN: The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) pilot and weapon systems officer involved in last night’s F/A-18D Hornet crash have been discharged from hospital, a source said.
The two men sustained minor injuries and were allowed to leave Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) early this morning.
A source said the pilot, a major, slightly injured his coccyx and had a burn on his left heel.
The weapon systems officer, a captain, had soft tissue damage to his back and thighs.
The duo were taken to HTAA’s Emergency and Trauma Department at 10pm last night.
The crash of the RMAF F/A-18D Hornet jet, which belongs to the RMAF No. 18 Squadron, happened last night shortly after it took off at the Kuantan Airbase.
Both the pilot and the weapon systems officer ejected safely.
Viral videos of the incident showed sparks flying before the jet was engulfed in flames as it took flight.
