PETALING JAYA:

Melaka police have arrested a man for allegedly beating his 17-year-old daughter after she took too long to heat up food at their home in Kampung Panchor, Alor Gajah.

The 40-year-old was detained by the Melaka police’s criminal investigation department yesterday afternoon after the victim lodged a report on Tuesday, Utusan Malaysia reported.

“The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.

“The suspect will be remanded at the Alor Gajah court tomorrow,” a source was quoted as saying.

According to the source, the girl had been doing her schoolwork at about 4.20pm when her father asked her to heat up food for her mother, who was at work.

The teenager threw down her pen in protest, which angered her father.

“The suspect slapped his daughter, causing swelling on her cheek and cuts on her lips, before hurling a plastic chair that struck her body.

“He then smashed another chair against the girl’s back and left shoulder, causing injuries to her hand,” the source was quoted as saying.

The teenager later sought treatment at the Melaka Hospital after filing a police report at the Alor Gajah station.
