KUALA LUMPUR: The tobacco, cigarettes and cigars smuggling ring crippled by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) recently is believed to have direct links to the group of Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) intelligence officers arrested on Aug 14.
MACC is now investigating the possible wider network involving enforcement officers and smugglers.
Sources revealed that the MACC has recorded the statements of 10 individuals.
“What is of concern is that this syndicate is also believed to have direct links with a group of MAF officers detained in Op Sohor on Aug 14, indicating the existence of a wider protection network,” the source said.
