RON95 subsidy: Vehicle and home ownership now criteria

KUALA LUMPUR: Ownership of property and luxury vehicles, along with monthly income, will be among the factors considered in determining eligibility for the RON95 subsidy rationalisation, says Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim.

He said eligibility would be assessed using various data sources, including income records from the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) and findings from the Household Income Survey (HIS) conducted by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).

“This ensures a more comprehensive approach in targeting assistance to those who genuinely need it. Several additional criteria will also be taken into account, such as ownership of property and luxury vehicles, alongside monthly income, before a final decision is made and announced by the end of September,” he said in a written parliamentary reply.

was responding to Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin (PN-Larut), who had asked when the RON95 rationalisation would be implemented and how the mechanism would work.

He assured that at least 85 per cent of Malaysians would not be directly affected by the rationalisation, stressing that only non-citizens and the truly affluent would be excluded from receiving the subsidy.

said that the government remained committed to rolling out the RON95 petrol subsidy targeting in the second half of 2025.
