ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said some parties were creating concern among investors by claiming the state could not provide enough water and electricity supply.
He rejected the claims, saying Johor and the federal government were working together to provide reliable infrastructure for investors, particularly in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).
Onn Hafiz said a state committee had been set up involving three executive councillors overseeing investment, trade, consumer affairs, human resources, infrastructure, transport, housing and local government.
“When a company wants to build a data centre in Johor, we review first. If water and electricity are not sufficient, we will not approve the application,” he said.
He was speaking at the launch of MBW Innexus Industrial City and the signing of a memorandum of understanding at the Invest Malaysia Facilitation Centre-Johor (IMFC-J) in Forest City.
The event was officiated by Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz, with MB World Group executive director Rohman Ahmad present.
Onn Hafiz added that Johor had introduced initiatives such as alternative water supply with Indah Water Konsortium and long-term plans with the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (PETRA) to ensure sufficient supply until 2030.
“Johor is very serious about attracting investment, and we will ensure investors who choose Johor feel secure with adequate water and electricity supply. For those trying to take advantage, I hope they stop, because we want to build not only Johor’s economy but also contribute to the country,” he said.
