KANGAR: Two Perlis government staff have been remanded for five days over alleged abuse of position in state procurement projects worth nearly RM100,000.

Magistrate Nurshahida Abd Rahim granted a five-day remand order, starting today until Sunday, for two men aged 42 and 36 to assist the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) investigation into the alleged abuse.

The case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.

The suspects, a senior administrative assistant and an assistant administrative officer, were brought to the Kangar Court Complex at 9am.

According to a source, investigations focus on the alleged misuse of their positions for personal gain.

“We believe the suspects abused their positions for personal interests involving four state procurement projects between 2020 and last year.

“Investigations also found they conspired in managing the projects for their own benefit,” the source said outside the Kangar court today.

The suspects were arrested at about 2pm yesterday after being summoned to give their statements at the Perlis MACC office in Kangar.

Perlis MACC director Mohd Nor Adha Ab Gani confirmed the arrest of the two civil servants when contacted.
