Police probe arrow lodged in car door, archery training halted

GEORGE TOWN: A viral video showing an arrow lodged in the door of a moving vehicle on Jalan Macalister has sparked a police investigation and led to the suspension of a school archery training session.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the incident occurred at 3.30pm on Aug 13, involving a 57-year-old man driving from Ayer Itam towards Jalan Pangkor.

“As the driver was passing Jalan Macalister, an arrow, believed to have originated from a nearby archery activity, suddenly struck and embedded itself in the right rear door of his car. The driver was unharmed,” he said this evening.

The video, which has circulated widely on social media, has raised public concerns over safety practices for archery activities held near public roads.

Rozak said the case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief.

Checks with the nearby school confirmed that the archery training, organised by the Penang State Sports Council and conducted on the school field adjacent to Jalan Macalister, was immediately suspended on Aug 14 following the incident.

“The incident has also been reported to the Penang State Sports Council and the Penang State Education Department,” he said.

He urged the public to avoid speculation that could hinder the ongoing investigation.
