IPOH: The Ulu Kinta General Operations Force (GOF) seized 33,500kg of white Thai rice worth around RM400,000 being smuggled in a trailer lorry in Gerik on Sunday (Aug 17).
GOF Northern Brigade commander, SAC Shahrum Hashim, said a man, 44, was also arrested during the operation between 3.15pm to 5.45pm.
“The operation team detained a trailer lorry carrying 670 gunny sacks of white Thai rice, each weighing 50kg, while it was on its way to a rice warehouse in Perak,” he said in a statement here on Monday (Aug 18).
The case is being investigated under Section 7(2) of the Control of Paddy and Rice Act 1994, he added. – Bernama
