CYBERJAYA: “Why are we so gullible?” Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim posed this question today in response to growing speculation surrounding the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir, including a viral video of a man falsely claiming to have performed her autopsy.
He said people are often too quick to believe and share content on social media without verifying the facts, fuelling unnecessary rumours.
Anwar was speaking during a townhall session at the launch of Multimedia University’s (MMU) Faculty of Artificial Intelligence and Engineering (FAIE) in Cyberjaya.
Earlier, it was reported that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and police are working to identify a TikTok user who made the false claim.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil was reported as saying that the man had claimed he was present during the post-mortem on Aug 10, but checks by the Health Ministry confirmed that he was neither a specialist nor a staff member.
