Saifuddin: 195 witnesses quizzed, false claims in Zara Qairina case dismissed

KUALA LUMPUR: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said various claims surrounding the death of 13-year-old Zara Qairina have been found to be unfounded following thorough investigations.

“At that time, several claims surfaced, such as the person involved being the grandchild of the Sabah Yang di-Pertua Negeri, the principal being the wife of a minister, the manner of death, and the manner of abuse,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Saifuddin said all these claims were dismissed after police recorded statements from 195 witnesses.

Additionally, a total of 21 investigation papers have been opened against individuals believed to have tried to exploit the issue for their own interests.

“The investigation has now been expanded to include those found attempting to manipulate this issue to disrupt public order,” Saifuddin added.

Zara was found unconscious on July 16 and is believed to have fallen from the third floor of a dormitory building.

She was pronounced dead the following day.
