JERANTUT: A teenage girl was killed and five others injured in a collision involving a lorry laden with oil palm fruit and a sports utility vehicle (SUV) along Jalan Jerantut–Lipis near Kampung Besul today.
Pahang Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Zulfadli Zakaria said the department received a distress call about the incident at 11.44am.
He said that the lorry was travelling from Kuala Lipis towards Jerantut when it collided with the SUV, which was carrying five family members.
“The teenager died at the scene, while the driver and three other passengers, including two girls, were injured. The lorry veered into the right lane, causing the driver to sustain injuries as well,” he said in a statement.
Zulfadli added that all the injured were taken to Jerantut Hospital for treatment, while the teenager’s body was also sent there for a post-mortem.
“The identity of the deceased is being verified, and the cause of the accident is under police investigation,” he said.
