The federal police’s criminal investigation department has taken over the investigation into the attack on Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli’s 12-year-old son on Aug 13.

He also urged anyone with information to contact the nearest police station to assist in the investigation.

Yesterday, Shazeli said police found multiple positive leads in their investigation that could help hunt down those involved in the attack, following examination of CCTV footage.

Police are also working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to investigate the threatening text messages that Rafizi’s wife had received a day after the attack.

The attack on Rafizi’s 12-year-old son occurred at a shopping mall in at about 2pm on Wednesday.

The former economy minister said CCTV footage showed that two men, dressed in black with their faces fully covered by helmets, had followed his wife’s car on a motorcycle before the incident.

His son, who was dragged and stabbed with a syringe, was rushed to hospital for treatment and a checkup. The assailants escaped.

The former deputy president suspected that the attack was planned, and that his wife was likely observed by the assailants for a few days before the attack was carried out.

Rafizi said his son will need to undergo six months of medical tests to rule out the possibility that he was injected with anything dangerous.
