JOHOR BARU: The Johor Health Department issued 106 compounds notices worth RM26,300 during a two-day enforcement exercise, Ops Selamat Paru-Paru (Ops Selamat PaPa), on Thursday and Friday.
State health director Dr Mohtar Pungut @ Ahmad said 61 of the offences involved smoking in prohibited areas, including 39 cases at eateries and one involving an underage smoker.
Another 44 notices were issued to premises for failing to comply with the law, including not displaying “no smoking” signs (39 cases), providing smoking facilities (three cases) and failing to stop patrons from smoking (two cases).
“The operation, themed Ops Kilang dan Runcit, was aimed at strengthening enforcement under the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 (Act 852),” Mohtar said today.
He said the crackdown also focused on serious offences such as advertising, promoting or sponsoring smoking products, selling to minors, non-compliance with retail pricing, and distributing unlabelled or improperly packaged products.
Under Act 852, corporations face fines of RM20,000 to RM100,000 or up to two years’ jail for a first offence, and RM50,000 to RM300,000 or up to three years’ jail for subsequent offences.
