SIBU: The Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac) has introduced a special travel package for nurses in Sibu and Bintulu.
Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said the “Nursecation Holiday” package is a token of gratitude for their dedication and sacrifices, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic, and in their demanding daily duties.
It also reflects the ministry’s commitment to recognising the crucial role nurses play in safeguarding public health, while also giving them the chance to unwind and travel with their families, he added.
“We want our nurses to enjoy quality time with their families.
“Therefore, we are introducing a special promotion – low-cost one-way airfare between Kuala Lumpur and Sibu or Bintulu – starting from just RM138,” he said in his speech to more than 1,000 central region healthcare workers at a Nurse Appreciation Night on Saturday (Augu 15).
The promotional booking period is from Sept 1 to 30, for travel anytime between Sept 1 and Dec 31.
Nurses under the Health Ministry will be able to redeem the offer by entering their nurse identification numbers when making a booking.
Tiong said the initiative will eventually be extended to other healthcare professionals, including doctors and pharmacists.
“I will instruct my ministry’s director-general to include all these groups in upcoming packages. We cannot overlook them – they are all vital,” said the Bintulu MP and Dudong assemblyman.
In addition to discounted flights, several hotels in Sibu have agreed to provide a 10% reduction on accommodation, and the ministry will also negotiate similar discounts with Kuala Lumpur hotels, Tiong added.
Tiong said his ministry is also compiling a list of attractions, such as the Skywalk and theme parks, which will offer special discounts for healthcare workers, especially those travelling with children.
