KLANG: Four people trapped on the third floor of a three-storey shoplot were rescued by firefighters after a blaze broke out in Taman Sentosa here early this morning.

Fire and Rescue Department Operations assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar said the department received an emergency call at 5.43am regarding the incident at Jalan Hulubalang 10, Taman Sentosa, in Klang.

“Upon arrival, we found the first floor of the shoplot, measuring 20 by 30 feet, about 50 per cent engulfed in flames.

“Thick smoke had blocked the staircase, preventing the victims, aged between 17 and 81. from escaping. Our firefighters managed to bring all of them down safely,” he said.

Ahmad Mukhlis said the operation was led by officer Amar Muhsinin Mislan, the operations commander from Andalas fire and rescue station arrived at the scene at 5.54am, before firemen from Klang Selatan and Klang Utara were also called in to assist in the operation.

The operation, involving 14 personnel and three vehicles, two Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) trucks and one water tanker, brought the fire under control at about 6.16am.

“No casualties were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation,” he added.
