KEPALA BATAS: A 72-year-old woman was found dead inside her home in Kampung Gurun, Penaga, near here this evening after firefighters were called to access a locked room.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations John Sagun Francis said the victim, identified as Ramlah Saleh, was discovered unconscious in a room following a distress call at 6.30pm.

Firefighters from the Kuala Muda fire and rescue station said a six-member team arrived at the scene within seven minutes and were informed by the caller that a person was believed to be trapped inside a locked room.

“Upon arrival, firefighters collaborated with police and Health Ministry personnel to access the room.

“The door was found to be unlocked, and a woman was unconscious inside,” he said.

John said paramedics later confirmed that the victim had died at the scene.

The case has been handed over to the police.

The operation ended at 7.21pm.
