MELAKA: A 24-year-old man died after falling from the 27th floor of a rented condominium unit at Kota Syahbandar here in the early hours of Thursday (14 Aug).

According to a police source, the body was first noticed by a guest on the eighth floor of the condominium, who heard a loud noise coming from the direction of the swimming pool on the seventh floor at about 2.30am.

“When the witness saw a figure in the water, they immediately contacted the police.

“The police confirmed that the floating object in the pool was the body of a man, with his left arm severed,” said the source on Thursday (August 14).

Police then sought the help of the Fire and Rescue Department to retrieve the body from the pool, and medical officers who confirmed the death.

Investigations revealed that the deceased had checked into a homestay unit at midnight with his 21-year-old fiancée.

“At about 2.15am, he told his fiancée he heard someone knocking on the door of their unit before stepping out onto the balcony in an attempt to climb his way down to a lower floor.

“However, the deceased was believed to have fallen into the swimming pool.

“CCTV footage showed no one else was involved during the incident,” the source added.

The body has been sent to the Forensic Medicine Department of Hospital Melaka for a post-mortem examination.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the case had been classified as a sudden death report (SDR).

He also urged the public not to speculate on the incident to respect the feelings of the deceased’s family.
