TASHKENT, July 12 (Bernama) — Participants at the First International Islamic Civilisation Forum have proposed the establishment of a World Alliance for Islamic Civilisation to coordinate global research, education and preservation of Islamic heritage, marking a new phase of international scholarly cooperation.
The proposal was contained in a statement adopted by participants at the close of the four-day forum and addresed to Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
According to the statement, the proposed alliance would coordinate joint research programmes, expand academic exchanges, train specialists, undertake international publishing initiatives, preserve cultural heritage and strengthen humanitarian cooperation among nations.
“With a view to translating the Forum’s decisions into practical action, we intend, in consultation with Your Excellency, to put forward the initiative to establish the World Alliance for Islamic Civilisation.”
“The decisions adopted during the Forum clearly demonstrate that this noble initiative, which originated in Uzbekistan, has gained broad international support and is becoming a shared endeavour of the global scholarly and intellectual community,” the participants said.
The statement was read by Al-Furqan Foundation Executive Director Sali Shahsivari on behalf of delegates from more than 50 countries during the closing ceremony.
The participants also reaffirmed their readiness to combine their intellectual, academic and spiritual resources to implement the forum’s resolutions and preserve Islamic civilisation for future generations.
They expressed full support for the Tashkent Declaration and the Roadmap on the Preservation, Study and Advancement of Islamic Civilisation, describing both documents as a solid foundation for long-term international cooperation.
Participants said the forum had inaugurated a new stage of global cooperation to study, preserve and promote the legacy of Islamic civilisation as an integral part of humanity’s shared spiritual, cultural and intellectual heritage.
The statement also described the Islamic Civilisation Centre in Uzbekistan as an emerging world-class scholarly and educational institution that is expected to become a major international hub for research, innovation and collaboration among governments, universities, museums, libraries and research centres.
“”We deeply appreciate Your Excellency’s dedicated efforts to preserve, study, and promote the rich scholarly and spiritual legacy of our ancestors.
“The establishment of the Islamic Civilisation Centre in Uzbekistan, the Imam al-Bukhari Memorial Complex, the Imam al-Bukhari International Research Centre, the Imam al-Maturidi International Research Centre, and the Imam al-Tirmidhi International Research Centre stands as clear testimony to this noble endeavour,” it said.
The First International Forum on Islamic Civilisation, held under the theme “Peace, Tolerance and Enlightenment” on July 7-10, brought together heads of international organisations, ministers, muftis, scholars and representatives of academic and cultural institutions from more than 50 countries.
