BACHOK: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced RM2.1 million in aid for pondok schools under the Kelantan Islamic Foundation (YIK).
Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said the aid would be expedited over the coming months to cover damages sustained by the schools.
“Of course, pondok schools, even though they fall under YIK, still require attention, and I’ve promised to assist with the contributions,” he said.
“To address the major damage, RM2.1 million will be disbursed within the next few months.
“After that, we will review the full application, including those involving around 246 dilapidated pondok schools across the country,” he told reporters during a visit to a YIK pondok school here today.
Also present were Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud and Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.
