NEW YORK, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) — The U.S. dollar strengthened in late trading on Thursday.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.23 percent to 98.4 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).
In late New York trading, the euro slipped to 1.1622 dollars from 1.1663 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound advanced to 1.3410 dollars from 1.3363 dollars in the previous session.
The U.S. dollar bought 147.56 Japanese yen, higher than 147.07 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar rose to 0.8082 Swiss francs from 0.8063 Swiss francs and to 1.3765 Canadian dollars from 1.3742 Canadian dollars, but slipped to 9.6037 Swedish kronor from 9.6068 Swedish kronor.
