KLUANG: A 51-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly driving against traffic and nearly colliding with an oncoming vehicle in Kluang.
Police acted after a 24-second video of the incident went viral on social media.
Kluang police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said investigations found the incident happened at 4pm last Monday, at the Taman Megah intersection at Km57.4 of Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing.
Investigations also revealed that an SUV driven by the man exited Taman Megah by using an entry ramp to enter the lane heading towards Mersing.
“The SUV nearly collided with a car that was about to enter the same lane,” he said in a statement.
Based on the information received, a team of officers from the traffic investigation and enforcement division of the Kluang District Police Headquarters (IPD) arrested the driver for investigation.
A urine screening test found the man to be negative for drugs, and the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
