PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a community development department (Kemas) officer on suspicion of receiving RM40,000 in bribes involving the Rumah Mesra Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) housing project.
The suspect was arrested at 2pm yesterday while at the Sandakan MACC office to give his statement, Berita Harian reported.
A MACC source said the officer had been accepting bribes from several individuals and contractors from 2022 to this year, so that contracts to build affordable homes under SMJ would be awarded to them.
Sabah MACC chief S Karunanithy confirmed the arrest of the suspect, who is under remand until May 1.
