KAJANG: A total of 223 people participated in the National Anti-Drugs Agency’s (Nada) psychospiritual treatment and rehabilitation programme this year.

The programme, named i-DEEN 2025, has three events — memorising the Quran, reciting the Quran and singing Islamic songs.

It is part of Nada’s effort to improve its treatment and recovery programme by targeting the psychological and spiritual needs of a drug user.

Of the number, 111 made it into the final stage of the three activities.

In his speech before the prize giving ceremony, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said he targets an 80 per cent recovery rate for Nada’s clients.

He said Nada officers also needed more training to deal with the rise of synthetic drugs.

“When clients involved with synthetic drugs begin treatment, the approach to managing them must naturally differ.

“That’s why I emphasise that Nada personnel, including skilled workers, must possess a level of knowledge that keeps pace with these developments — because synthetic drugs present effects that are distinctly different,” he said.

The i-DEEN programme ran from Aug 3 to 5, with the famed nasyid group Rabbani as judges for the Islamic songs category.
