TAIPING, Aug 5 (Bernama) — The federal government has allocated RM1.2 million for a series of community development projects in Kampung Batu 8, Bendang Siam under the Kampung Angkat MADANI initiative and the MADANI TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) programme.

Polytechnic and Community College Education Department (JPPKK) director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Zahari Ismail said that the funds would be used for infrastructure upgrades aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents in the area.

Projects include upgrading the Kampung Batu 8 surau, constructing a community hall and a hall for Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bendang Siam, as well as building a funeral room at Masjid Al-Wusqa.

“A recreational gazebo will also be built in front of the surau, and an abandoned pond will be restored for fish farming to generate new income streams for the community,” Mohd Zahari said in in a press conference following a site visit to the village today.

He added that as part of efforts to enhance the standard of living and safety of residents, especially those in the B40 income group, a total of 21 houses have been identified for repair.

“The repair work includes replacing electricity distribution boxes, rewiring, installing solar-powered lights outside the homes, fixing leaking roofs, replacing damaged floors and wooden posts, as well as repairing old windows and doors.

Mohd Zahari said that the project is being carried out with the support of experts from technical education institutions, including students undergoing practical training in civil engineering and electrical fields.

He added that the implementation period for the project is two weeks, starting today and continuing until Aug 20. It involves 162 lecturers and students from 10 institutions under the Polytechnic and Community College (PolyCC) network nationwide.

“Kolej Komuniti Bagan Serai is acting as the main coordinator of this initiative, in collaboration with nine other institutions – Politeknik Sultan Idris Shah, Politeknik Nilai, Politeknik Jeli, Politeknik Bagan Datuk, Kolej Komuniti Sabak Bernam, Kolej Komuniti Seberang Jaya, Kolej Komuniti Masjid Tanah, Kolej Komuniti Selandar and Kolej Komuniti Kuala Langat,” he said.

He said that the initiative is coordinated by the Perak Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU), in collaboration with the Larut Matang and Selama District and Land Offices, the Penghulu office, the village head office, and relevant technical agencies.
