SEGAMAT: A married couple were killed when their vehicle crashed into two electricity poles at Km13 Jalan Segamat-Kuantan, near Felda Pemanis, today.
The couple, who own a jewellery store in Pekan, Pahang, were in a Ford Mustang heading towards Segamat when the incident occurred about 2pm.
They were identified as 51-year-old Mohd Izuddin Harmaini, who was driving the car, and Nur Syamimi Rosli, 36.
It is understood that the incident occurred during heavy rain.
District police chief Superintendent Ahmad Zamry Marinsah said Izuddin was believed to have lost control of the vehicle before crashing into the two poles.
He said both Izuddin and Nur Syamimi died at the scene.
“Investigations are ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act.
“Those with information on the crash should contact the nearest police station or the district Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department at 07-9325811,” he said when contacted.
Meanwhile, Segamat fire station chief Muhd Hazim Abd Razak said his men had to use specialised equipment to extricate the bodies of the victims from the wreck of the vehicle.
“They were confirmed dead at the scene and their bodies handed over to police for further acttion.” he said.
