KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 (Bernama) — Loan repayment performance under the Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) programme has shown encouraging improvement, with total collections reaching RM117 million, as of June 30.
Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu said that the amount marked a 57 per cent increase, compared with RM74.94 million collected last year.
“This reflects an increase of RM42.51 million compared with the same period last year… highlighting the effectiveness of Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB)’s collection system, as well as the growing sense of accountability among borrowers in fulfilling their repayment obligations,” she said at the Special Chamber session of the Dewan Rakyat sitting, today.
She added that the figures also demonstrated continued public confidence and positive reception towards the Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) programme, nationwide.
Aiman was responding to a question from Aminolhuda Hassan (PH-Sri Gading), regarding this year’s RMR loan repayment performance and SPNB’s recovery rate.
Aiman Athirah said that the loan recovery rate was commendably high, with nearly all states recording positive growth.
“Among the top-performing states in terms of collection were Kelantan, with RM19.92 million (up 75 per cent); Terengganu, with RM15.65 million (up 66 per cent); Kedah, with RM11.99 million (up 76 per cent); and Negeri Sembilan, with RM9.02 million (up 78 per cent),” she said.
She said from 2022 until June 30 this year, a total of 186,315 applications were received nationwide. Of these, 73,280 applications were approved, with 72,509 housing units completed and handed over to the owners, while the remaining 771 units are still under construction.
“A total of 30,262 applications, or 16.2 per cent, were cancelled or rejected for not meeting the eligibility criteria, while 13,177 eligible applications are currently in the queue. In addition, 69,596 new applications are undergoing eligibility assessment.
Aiman Athirah said that SPNB is currently exploring a collaborative approach in implementing RMR, by partnering with relevant agencies, as well as government or private companies, to further enhance the programme’s effectiveness.
