SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government will review the progress of reconstruction and repairs of homes damaged in the Putra Heights gas explosion this Friday (Aug 8), Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari says.
He said the matter will be discussed at the Selangor Economic Action Council meeting, adding that the reconstructions in Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru and Taman Putra Harmoni are expected to be completed by October.
“As mentioned during the last Selangor State Assembly sitting, the extent of the damage necessitates a lengthy process. However, if construction is found to be slow, we will reassess the situation,” he explained to reporters after a meeting here on Monday.
Amirudin emphasised that there were no discrepancies in the aid provided to victims in the two housing areas. Assistance is determined by the level of damage, adhering to a fixed ceiling.
“Homes in Putra Heights that were destroyed can receive up to RM300,000, while those with minor damage can receive up to RM60,000,” he said.
“There are specific processes based on the severity, but no discrimination exists. Additionally, rental assistance for up to three months will be expedited, following delays due to necessary verification.”
During the state assembly on July 8, Amirudin reported that 81 homes were destroyed and 138 were damaged in the April 1 PETRONAS gas pipeline explosion.
Reconstruction is anticipated to conclude between October and June 2027.
