PETALING JAYA:

The road transport department (JPJ) will conduct a safety audit on the bus company involved in yesterday’s accident that injured three children and a teacher during a kindergarten trip at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

JPJ director-general Aedy Fadly Ramli said the department has received a report on the incident, which has been handed over to the police for further investigation, Bernama reported.

“JPJ will conduct a safety inspection and audit on the bus operator and will take further action after receiving the audit report,” he was quoted as saying.

The accident occurred at about 12.20pm yesterday when the bus, carrying five teachers and 30 children, lost control, skidded and crashed into a tree along Jalan Persiaran Universiti 1.

Dashcam footage, which went viral, showed the bus veering off course before the impact.

Three children and a teacher suffered head injuries and were treated as outpatients at Sultan Idris Shah Hospital in Serdang.

The bus driver has been detained to assist in an investigation under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving.
