KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 (Bernama) — The Scout Movement is planning to expand community-based scouting nationwide, says Chief Scout of Malaysia Maj Gen (Rtd) Datuk Prof Dr Mohd Zin Bidin.
He said the proposal included introducing the initiative to Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) estates and flats to instil leadership, discipline and good character among youth in those areas.
He added that the approach was seen as an effective model for broadening the movement, especially to reach young people who might not have had the opportunity to join uniformed Scout units at school.
“So we need capable leaders to train the children. I hope we can work together to establish community-based scouting,” he said during the Medal Presentation Ceremony for the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur branch of the Malaysian Scouts Association (PPM WPKL) at the Tan Sri Abdul Rafie Auditorium here today.
Mohd Zin also called on PPM WPKL to be a model of excellence in implementing the programme and to work towards increasing membership.
“Kuala Lumpur, as the capital city, should be the best example in the region. We have all the facilities, diversity and spirit needed to make this a success,” he said.
