Macau Open: M’sians In Three Finals Although Top Seeds Tang Jie-Ee Wei Defeated

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 (Bernama) — The hopes of Malaysia’s mixed doubles pair, Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, to end their Macau Open 2025 campaign with a title was dashed after they were upset by Denmark’s Mathias Christiansen-Alexandra Boje in the semifinals today.

In the match at the Macao East Asian Games Dome, Tang Jie-Ee Wei, the tournament’s top seeds, initially dominated the opening set 21-15 but failed to maintain their momentum, succumbing 17-21, 11-21 in a 54-minute battle.

However, Tang Jie-Ee Wei’s disappointment was redeemed by fellow Malaysian mixed doubles pair, Jimmy Wong-Lai Pei Jing, who produced a strong performance to defeat sixth seeds from Indonesia, Amri Syahnawi-Nita Violina Marwah, 21-18, 21-16 and secured their spot in the final against Christiansen and Boje.

Meanwhile, national men’s singles player Justin Hoh continued his impressive run, coming from behind to beat India’s Tharun Mannepalli 19-21, 21-16, 21-16 in an epic 81-minute battle.

This marks Justin’s second victory in three encounters against Tharun and he will next face Alwi Farhan of Indonesia, who had previously defeated the tournament’s second seed, Lakshya Sen of India, 21-16, 21-9.

Also advancing to the final were national men’s doubles pair Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Yap Roy King, who had no trouble defeating their compatriots Choong Hon Jian-Muhammad Haikal Nazri 21-13, 21-15 in just 34 minutes.

The pair will meet either the Indonesian pair of Sabar Karyaman Gutama-Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani or the Taiwanese pair of Lee Fang Chih-Lee Fang Jen, in tomorrow’s final.
