The foldable segment, especially book-style foldables, is a crowded one in the smartphone space. In Malaysia, we have products such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, Honor Magic V5, Oppo Find N5, and even Vivo has just recently brought its foldable into the Malaysian market with the X Fold 5.
Although Xiaomi has the clamshell Mix Flip in our market, its book-style foldable Mix Fold series, which is currently at its fourth generation already, has yet to be introduced into Malaysia.
To find out why, we had the opportunity of sitting down for an interview with Xiaomi Malaysia’s Country Manager, Eddie Huang, in conjunction with the grand opening of the company’s new retail store in The Exchange TRX.
No plans to bring the Xiaomi Mix Fold into Malaysia for the moment

According to Eddie, Xiaomi, at least for the moment, has no plans of bringing in its Mix Fold series into Malaysia, mainly due to low demand for more premium Xiaomi smartphones. This is added with the fact that most Xiaomi products sold in Malaysia are of the entry-level and mid-range category, which is parallel with Xiaomi’s past strategy of focusing more on these segments.
Despite that, Xiaomi isn’t ruling out the possibility of the scenario changing in the future. The brand might consider bringing in the Mix Fold to our local market if sales of premium-tier Xiaomi devices like the Xiaomi 15 series increase.
What about Xiaomi laptops?

In addition to the Mix Fold, we also asked Xiaomi about the absence of its laptop lineup in Malaysia. Addressing the question, Xiaomi explained that, similar to the Mix Fold series, demand for Xiaomi laptops is low in Malaysia, and thus, they aren’t a priority for the brand for the time being. But again, this can change if market demands shift down the line.
For context, the first and last laptop Xiaomi brought into Malaysia was the RedmiBook 15, which launched here in 2022.
Xiaomi opens new store at The Exchange TRX

Xiaomi recently opened its new retail store at The Exchange TRX. This is the second store the brand has opened in Malaysia, with its store in IPC Damansara, which launched in December last year.
Spanning 2,700 sq ft, the new store showcases the largest lineup of Xiaomi products in Malaysia, with over 250 items on display. This way exceeds the brand’s IPC Damansara store with 89 items.

Among the products you can find here include smartphones, tablets, wearable devices, robotic vacuum cleaners, and TVs. There are also various AIoT products, such as the Mijia Refrigerator Cross Door 510L and Mijia Air Conditioner Pro Eco series. Xiaomi also showcased its 2-in-1 Mijia Front Load Washer Dryer, which is set to launch in Malaysia on the 7th of August 2025.
Reportedly, this TRX retail store is among the Xiaomi stores in Malaysia that offer after-sales service in Malaysia. Therefore, you can visit the store if you experience any issues with your Xiaomi products.
Thus far, Xiaomi has a total of 77 stores nationwide, and aims to increase the number to 85 stores by the end of 2025.
