Man dies in motorcycle-lorry crash in Baling


BALING: A 34-year-old man died after his motorcycle collided with a lorry in Kampung Kemangi, along the Kulim–Baling–Gerik road, last night.

District police chief Superintendent Brandon Richard Joe, said police received a call reporting the accident at 8.40pm. Policemen were dispatched to the scene.

He said investigations found the motorcycle, ridden by a local man aged 34, was travelling from Kampung Kemangi towards Masjid Kuala Kuang while the lorry was driven by a 33-year-old local man.

“The lorry is believed to have been travelling from towards Penang. The incident remains under investigation,” he added.

The motorcyclist suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to Baling Hospital’s Forensic Unit for post-mortem examination.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death, which carries a prison term of two to ten years and a fine of RM5,000 to RM20,000 if convicted.
